Acts 1:8
"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."
To often, those of us that have received the gift of the Holy Spirit forget how precious that gift is. Last night, as I sat in bed at about 12:30, a text came through. At first I was annoyed, thinking "I want to sleep, whose texting me at this hour, it better be important!"
It was a friend, texting me the simple message "I've just been filled with the holy spirit for the first time!" How awesome is that? And I use the word awesome, because that truely is a fantastic moment, a precious moment, that can be lost so easily.
This got me thinking about the importance of the Holy Spirit. Too often it is not considered as important, or doesn't seem to be, as the rest of the trinity, the Father and the Son. Yet, this is the special helper that God sends now! The reason he sends the Holy Spirit, is because it can be everywhere at once, it can touch an entire nation in one moment. Jesus was in human form, he couldn't be everywhere at once, it wasn't possible in that form. The holy spirit continues his work though, and allows us as simple humans to go out and serve!
In fact, the scriptures tell us to head out the ends of the earth! Now for some of that, that may simply be the end of our street, and you might be thinking "How can I do that?"
The answer is simple, you can't! God can!
The scriptures also tell us that we must decrease so that he can increase, if you want to fill the Holy Spirit for the first time today, then give up yourself, and let him take you on!
Now this might seem like a rant, and the truth is, it is! Because we are nothing without God, we are nothing without his spirit within us. You will NOT see your friends find God in your own strength, only when you let the spirit take the lead!
If you have already received the Spirit, then rejoice, but don't just wait to for another top up, a glass is only so big! It needs to be emptied once in a while!
Go be emptied, then come to the fountain, and be renewed!
Have you been filled with the spirit? Are you living an active life? Where is your ends of the earth today?
Run with the vision people. Follow the Word of God, because Jesus is the way, the truth and the life!
